French beans with chanadal

Ingredients:

  •           Beans washed and cut them into small pieces
  •           chanadal(Pacchi sengapappu) presoaked 20minutes before
  •           coconut shredded 2 tbsp
  •           2 tablespoons oil
  •           mustard seeds 1 tsp
  •           cumin seeds 1 tsp
  •           garlic clove crushed 1
  •           red chillies 1
  •           curry leaves 1 stem
  •           salt
  •           red chillie powder

cook the beans with 2 pinches of salt either in boiling water or steam them in a cooker.( we get a bowl for steam cooking in rice cookers.i usually steam cook them in that bowl, when i am cooking the rice)

Heat the skillet when it is warm add oil and once oil gets heated add mustard seeds and cumin seeds.once they start spulttering add the red chillie broken into pieces add the garlic clove and then the curry leaves.immediately add the cooked beans.stir them once so that the beans pieces are covered in oil.microwave the soaked dal for 30 sec.the purpose of microwaving the dal is see that theyare cooked slightly .if they are coooked completely they will loose there shape once you start frying along with the beans.so you should see that they are slighty cooked.add the chanadal to the beans and fry for 3-4min.once turn and toss them cover with a lid  for 2min and reduce the heat. After that add the shredded coconut. If you add more coconut it gives the fry a sweetesh flavour.to avoid that we add only 2 spoons of coconut.and fry for 3-4min meanwhile mixing all the ingredients togther.adjust the salt add red chilliepowder according to your taste.

fry for one more minute and turn the heat off.serve with steamed rice or roti.
